# Jeannie Nails — Maternity/Pregnancy-Safe Services + Eyelash Services --- ## Maternity Services Blog
Pregnancy changes everything — including what beauty services are safe. Many expectant mothers wonder: can I still get manicures? Is waxing safe during pregnancy? What about pedicures in the third trimester? This guide covers everything you need to know about nail and wax services during pregnancy, what we do differently for expecting clients, and which services we recommend for each trimester.
The concern with nail polish during pregnancy is chemical exposure — specifically toluene, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). These are the "toxic trio" that some polish brands still use. At Jeannie Nails, we use only toluene-free, formaldehyde-free, and DBP-free nail polish as our standard product. We have used "10-Free" polish (free of the top 10 chemical concerns) since 2024. There is no special request needed — our standard polish is pregnancy-safe.
What we recommend for pregnancy manicures: classic manicure ($10) with standard polish. Skip gel manicures during pregnancy unless specifically approved by your doctor — gel requires UV/LED lamp curing, and while the data shows the lamps are safe, we respect the "better safe than sorry" approach that many OBs recommend. If you want a longer-lasting option, dip powder is an alternative to gel (talk to your technician about the best option for your timeline).
For pedicures, we are more cautious. We do not use hot stone massage on pregnant clients (hot stones can raise core body temperature). We also keep the foot soak at a moderate temperature — not hot. Elevating the feet during a pedicure is safe and actually beneficial in the third trimester when swelling (edema) is common. The massage is lighter and focused on the calves and feet, avoiding pressure points on the ankles.
Waxing is safe during all three trimesters. The main difference: your skin is more sensitive during pregnancy due to increased blood flow and hormonal changes. You may find waxing more painful than before. Our technician uses a gentler touch and applies a post-wax soothing serum (aloe-based, no alcohol) to calm the skin immediately after.
Available wax services during pregnancy: eyebrow wax ($10), upper lip ($10), full face ($25), half leg ($30), full leg ($35), Brazilian ($35). Avoid bikini-line waxing in the third trimester — the increased blood flow to the pelvic area makes this significantly more painful and increases bruising risk. Eyebrow and lip waxing are safe throughout. Leg waxing is safe and recommended — bending over to shave becomes difficult in the second and third trimester.
Certain services at Jeannie Nails are not recommended during pregnancy: Onyfix ingrown toenail correction (the medication is not pregnancy-tested), gel polish application (UV lamp exposure is unnecessary during pregnancy), and paraffin wax treatments (hot paraffin raises skin temperature). Ear piercing is not recommended during pregnancy — the healing process competes with the body's immune resources.
We adjust the chair and table height to accommodate your bump. For manicures, you can choose a seated position with your hands resting at chest height. For pedicures, we do not use a reclining chair that requires lying flat on your back (which compresses the vena cava in the third trimester). Instead, we use a chair that keeps you upright with feet elevated on a cushioned rest. If you need a break during the service, just say the word. We schedule pregnancy services with extra time so there is never pressure to finish quickly.
Classic manicure: $10. Classic pedicure: $25. Eyebrow wax: $10. Upper lip wax: $10. Half leg wax: $30. Full leg wax: $35. Brazilian wax: $35. Add a pregnancy-safe moisturising treatment to any service: $5 extra.
Safe services throughout your pregnancy.
