Pedicure Guide 2026 โ€” Classic vs Spa vs Medicated vs Gel

By Jeannie Nails | May 2026 | 7 min read

Your feet carry you through every single day. They deserve more than a quick clip and paint. But with four different pedicure types on the menu at Jeannie Nails, how do you know which one you actually need? The good news: they all start at $10 for hands or feet, so the barrier to trying something new is low. The better news: this guide walks through each pedicure type in detail โ€” what is included, who it is for, and what you can expect during the appointment. Whether you are a first-timer or a weekly regular, you will know exactly which service to book.

All pedicures at Jeannie Nails include nail trimming, shaping, cuticle care, exfoliation, and moisturising. The differences come in the extras โ€” the duration, the tools, the therapeutic benefits, and the finish. Here is how they stack up.

๐Ÿฆถ Classic Pedicure โ€” $10 | 20 Minutes

The classic pedicure is our most popular service for one simple reason: it is the fastest, most affordable way to have clean, presentable feet. In 20 minutes, your nail tech will trim and shape all ten toenails, push back and trim cuticles, file down any rough edges, exfoliate dead skin from the heels and balls of the feet, apply moisturiser, and finish with your choice of regular nail polish colour. No soak, no massage, no hot towels โ€” just clean, polished, ready-to-go feet.

Who it is for: Men and women who value efficiency. Busy parents who want presentable feet without spending an hour in the salon. Anyone who is "just maintaining" between spa pedicures. First-time pedicure clients who want to try the service without committing to a longer appointment. The classic pedicure is also included in our $20 Both special โ€” classic hands + classic feet for $20 total.

๐ŸŒŠ Spa Pedicure โ€” $30 | 45 Minutes

The spa pedicure is where foot care becomes self-care. It includes everything in the classic service plus a 10-minute warm soak in an aromatherapy foot bath (your choice of lavender, eucalyptus, or unscented), a sea salt or sugar scrub exfoliation for the lower legs (removes dry, flaky skin from knees to toes), a hydrating collagen or avocado foot mask (10 minutes under heated towels), and a 10-minute lower leg and foot massage with warm lotion. Your tech finishes with a hot towel wrap and your choice of regular or gel polish on the toes.

The result is not just cleaner feet โ€” it is significantly softer, smoother skin that lasts 2-3 weeks. The massage component improves circulation and reduces foot fatigue, making this the recommended service for anyone who stands for long hours at work โ€” healthcare workers, retail staff, hospitality workers, and teachers.

Who it is for: Anyone who wants a real foot treatment, not just a polish refresh. Gift-givers (spa pedicure gift certificates are our top seller). Pre-vacation preparation. Bridal parties. Anyone experiencing foot fatigue, swelling, or dry skin conditions.

๐Ÿ’… Gel Pedicure โ€” $10 | 30 Minutes

A gel pedicure uses the same gel polish technology as our manicure service โ€” applied to toenails in thin layers and cured under a UV or LED lamp for 30-60 seconds per coat. The result is a high-shine, chip-proof finish that lasts 3-5 weeks on toenails (longer than fingernails because toes experience less wear and tear). Gel polish does not smudge, does not dent, and does not require drying time โ€” you put your socks and shoes on immediately and go.

The gel pedicure is priced the same as the classic pedicure ($10) because the application process is identical โ€” the only difference is that we cure the colour under a UV lamp instead of air drying it. This makes the gel pedicure the best value service on our menu: same price as classic but with 4 weeks of chip-free wear instead of 3-5 days. If you hate watching your toenail polish chip after a week, switch to gel and forget about it for a month.

Who it is for: Anyone who wears open-toed shoes (sandals, flip-flops, heels). Summer is gel pedicure season in Sheet Harbour. Also ideal for travellers โ€” set it and forget it for the entire trip. Diabetic clients should consult their healthcare provider first, but gel polish is generally safe with proper application.

๐Ÿฅ Medicated Pedicure โ€” $35 | 40 Minutes

Also called a medical or therapeutic pedicure, this service is performed on clients with specific foot health concerns: thickened or discoloured toenails, corns and calluses, ingrown toenails (early stage, non-infected), cracked heels, and nail fungus. The difference from a standard pedicure is clinical: your tech uses hospital-grade sterile tools (autoclave-sterilised), single-use files and buffers, and medical-grade soak solutions (tea tree oil, Epsom salt, or antifungal solution depending on your condition). The callus reduction is deeper than a classic or spa service โ€” your tech uses a sterile callus shaver to safely reduce thickened skin layers without cutting into healthy tissue. No massage is included (the focus is treatment, not relaxation).

Our medicated pedicure is performed by techs with additional training in medical nail and foot care. We do not diagnose conditions โ€” if we observe signs of infection, severe fungal growth, or circulation issues, we will refer you to a podiatrist. The medicated pedicure is a maintenance and hygiene service, not a substitute for medical treatment.

Who it is for: Seniors who can not comfortably trim their own toenails. Diabetics (with physician clearance โ€” we use extra-gentle techniques and avoid cutting cuticles). Anyone with recurring corns, calluses, or cracked heels. Athletes (runners, cyclists) with heavy callus buildup. Construction workers and outdoor workers whose feet take daily abuse. The medicated pedicure is covered by some extended health benefits plans โ€” check with your provider.

How Often Should You Get a Pedicure?

General recommendations by service type: classic pedicure โ€” every 2-3 weeks for maintenance (or when your polish chips). Spa pedicure โ€” every 4-6 weeks for deep exfoliation and skin health. Gel pedicure โ€” every 3-5 weeks (matching the growth cycle of your toenails). Medicated pedicure โ€” every 4-8 weeks depending on your foot health needs, or as recommended by your healthcare provider. During summer sandal season, most clients increase frequency by 50%. Winter is the best time for intensive treatments like medicated pedicures to prepare your feet for warm weather.
