Nova Scotia Nail Art — Wear the Coast on Your Nails

May 2026 · 3 min read

We are based in Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia — on the Eastern Shore. Our clients love representing the province in their nail art. Here are the most popular Nova Scotia-themed nail designs we create, all done freehand at Jeannie Nails.

Peggy's Cove Lighthouse Nails

The classic NS design. A red and white lighthouse (Peggy's Cove style, but any NS lighthouse works) on the ring finger of each hand. The remaining nails: an ocean gradient (deep blue at the cuticle fading to seafoam green at the tip) with white foam lines. The lighthouse is hand-painted with a fine brush — not stamped, not a decal. Detail includes the red and white stripes and a small white dot for the light. Best on medium to long nails (short nails do not have enough canvas for the detail). $35 for the full set (includes gel colour, hand-painted lighthouse, ocean gradient).

Ocean Gradient (Driftwood Collection)

No lighthouse, just the coast. 4 colours layered: deep navy at the cuticle, fading through seafoam green and teal, to a sandy beige at the tip. The effect looks like looking down at the coastline from above. Add a single gold or silver foil strip across the gradient (representing the sun reflection on the water). Best on almond or coffin shape. $30 includes gel and gradient. Foil accent: +$5.

Nova Scotia Tartan Nail Art

The Nova Scotia tartan is blue, red, white, green, and yellow stripes. Replicating a tartan pattern on nails requires a checkerboard of intersecting stripes. Technique: apply a light blue base. Use nail tape to mask alternating stripes — paint red, let dry. Tape again perpendicular, paint green/yellow. Peel, seal with top coat. Each tape layer needs full drying time (2-3 minutes under the LED lamp). The result is a tartan pattern that looks fabric-textured. $40 for a full set. Recommended for special occasions (Christmas, family reunions, Highland Games).

Lobster Claw Accent

A minimalist design: one accent nail in bright lobster red (CND Shellac "Red Baroness" or equivalent), with a single white curve that follows the side of the nail — representing a lobster claw silhouette. The remaining nails: classic white or sheer pink (the "Newfoundland white" style). Subtle, conversation-starting, and distinctly NS. $25 full set.

Sheet Harbour Local Special

For Sheet Harbour locals: a design representing the Sheet Harbour Bridge. Two C-shapes in grey on a teal base (the bridge arches over the water). The remaining nails in teal gradient. Ask at the desk for the "Local Design" — the technician will draw the bridge freehand. Same day service, $30 full set.
