Lash Lift Aftercare — Extend Your Lift from 6 to 8+ Weeks

May 2026 · 3 min read

A lash lift is a semi-permanent curl applied to your natural lashes that lasts 6-8 weeks. The difference between getting 6 weeks and getting 8+ weeks comes down to what you do in the first 72 hours. Here is exactly how to care for your lashes after a lift at Jeannie Nails.

First 24 Hours — The Critical Window

No water on the lashes at all. The lift solution sets the disulfide bonds in your lashes into the new curled shape over the first 24 hours. Water can disrupt the bond setting and cause the curl to drop prematurely. This means: no showers that hit your face directly, no crying, no swimming, no steam rooms, no saunas, no sweat that drips onto your lashes. Wash your face with a damp cloth avoiding the eye area. Shower with your back to the spray. If your lashes get wet accidentally, gently pat them dry with a tissue — do not rub.

48-72 Hours — The Tint Setting

If you had a tint alongside your lift, the dye continues oxidising and darkening for 48 hours. No mascara, no eyeliner, no oil-based products around the eyes. The tint is set by Day 3. After 72 hours, you can wear mascara and eye makeup normally. Use water-based mascara — oil-based or waterproof mascara breaks down the lift faster. Avoid eyelash curlers for the entire 8 weeks. You do not need them — the lift is the curl.

Ongoing Care (Day 4+)

Brush your lashes every morning with a clean spoolie brush. Brushing resets the lash direction after sleeping and prevents tangles. Do not sleep on your face — side or stomach sleeping crushes the lashes flat against the pillow. If you sleep on your side, use a silk pillowcase (creates less friction than cotton). Avoid oil-based cleansers, makeup removers, and moisturisers around the eyes — oil breaks down the lift solution bonds. Use micellar water or a gentle foaming cleanser for the eye area.

When to Come Back

Refill at 5-6 weeks for best results. The lift holds the curl for 6-8 weeks but starts relaxing around Week 5. A touch-up lift at 6 weeks refreshes the curl and lasts another 6-8 weeks. Do not lift more frequently than every 5 weeks — the perming solution can weaken the lashes with over-application. Between lifts, use a lash conditioning serum (available at the salon for $12) to keep lashes strong and moisturised.
