A lash lift is a semi-permanent curl treatment for your natural eyelashes. A silicone rod is placed on your eyelid, your lashes are brushed upward onto the rod, and a perming solution is applied. The solution breaks the disulphide bonds in the hair, which then reform in the upward-curl position. After 10-12 minutes, a neutraliser is applied to lock the shape. The result: your lashes are curled upward at 45-60 degrees from the root, opening up your eyes. The effect is most dramatic on people with straight lashes that point downward — the lift reverses the direction and makes your eyes look wider, more awake, and more open. The procedure takes 45 minutes. There is no pain, no discomfort, and no recovery time. You walk out with dry, curled lashes and can get them wet immediately.
A tint is a semi-permanent dye applied to your lashes to make them darker. The dye is vegetable-based, safe for use near the eyes, and lasts 4-6 weeks (tint fades faster than the lift holds). The tint is applied after the lift and left for 3-5 minutes. Combined with the lift, the tint makes your lashes visible without mascara. Brunettes notice a subtle darkening. Blondes and redheads notice a dramatic transformation — their lashes go from invisible to visible for the first time. The combo removes the need for mascara for 6-8 weeks.
Before: no mascara or eyeliner on the day of the appointment. Remove contact lenses (the tint solution can stain them). Avoid caffeine for 2 hours before (it can make you twitchy — the technician needs you to keep your eyes closed). If you wear lash extensions, they must be removed before the lift (the perming solution can break down the extension glue). We recommend waiting 4 weeks after extension removal for the natural lashes to recover.
After: do not get your lashes wet for 24 hours (the bonds are still setting). Do not use oil-based cleansers or makeup removers near the eyes (oil breaks down the lift). Do not rub your eyes. Do not use an eyelash curler (the lift has already curled them — you will bend them). Use a spoolie brush to keep them separated. Avoid mascara for the first 48 hours, then water-based mascara only. The lift lasts 6-8 weeks. The tint lasts 4-6 weeks.
