Acrylic nails are the most popular extension method at Jeannie Nails. The acrylic powder and monomer liquid combination creates a hard, durable nail extension that can be shaped into any style. A full set starts at $45. Here is everything you need to know before your first appointment.
Coffin/Ballerina: Tapered sides, flat tip. Most popular in 2026. Works on medium length. Requires precise shaping — best for clients with a steady hand for daily typing.
Almond: Oval sides tapered to a rounded point. Good for shorter extensions. Most natural-looking shape. Recommended for first-time acrylic wearers.
Square: Straight tip, squared corners. Classic shape. Durable (fewest breakage reports). Good for active lifestyles and heavy use of hands.
Stiletto: Sharp point. Dramatic, high-fashion shape. Not practical for most daily activities. Requires extra strength at the stress point area (the apex).
Round: Follows the natural curve of the finger. Short length only. Most durable shape because there are no corners to catch.
Short: 2-3mm past the fingertip. $45. Most practical for daily wear. Recommended for first-timers. Medium: 4-6mm past fingertip. $50. Most common length. Works with coffin and almond shapes. Long: 7-10mm past fingertip. $55. Requires reinforced apex. Extended: 11mm+ past fingertip. $60+. Stiletto and ballerina only. Need to type with your knuckles.
Acrylic nails grow out as your natural nail grows. A fill is needed every 2-3 weeks. The fill process: file down the existing acrylic, apply fresh acrylic at the cuticle area to fill the gap, shape, and finish. Cost: $25. If you go longer than 4 weeks, the acrylic may lift or the weight distribution shifts, increasing break risk. After 6 weeks, most sets need a full soak-off and reapplication. Do not wait more than 3 weeks for your first fill — the nail grows fastest in the first month.
To remove acrylics: soak in 100% acetone for 20-30 minutes, then gently push the softened acrylic off with an orange stick. Do not pry or pull. Do not file the natural nail surface. At Jeannie Nails, soak-off is $15 and includes a buff and cuticle oil treatment. If you attempt soak-off at home, use a bowl of warm water under the acetone bowl to keep it warm (warm acetone works faster). Do not microwave acetone. Do not let acetone touch the skin for more than 30 minutes.
